Taking others to higher ground
I enjoyed learning this week more about what makes a great leader. I have ready Good to Great by Jim Collins in the past and I like his definition of a great leader being humble but also driven. I think The Savior exemplifies all the characteristics of the greatest leader. James Richen says the leaders, "Stand up for something of importance and motivate others to do the same." He also says that a leader is a person who takes others to higher ground. Kawaskai mirrors that same theme when he talks about ALWAYS be thinking about how we can help someone overtime we meet a new person. Instead of thinking about what we can get from others (being an eater) he says we should do the opposite and think about what we can do for others. This is the theme of this week to me. When I am in a leadership position or even in all my associations with others I need to have that humility and selfless thinking and that will actually bring me the success I desire.
Another idea that I took away from my studies this week was about creating the habit of executing. I need to accept a task and go and do it without asking questions or trying to pass off responsibility. I have the ability to complete tasks using my own knowledge and resources available to take on most tasks. This will make others trust me and will build my own confidence as I keep commitments and trust myself more. "The greatest challenges come from within." If I am waiting for unforeseen circumstances to become my stumbling blocks I will forget to overcome my own internal challenges and that is what will lead to the most growth in my life.
